" We proudly present our new restaurant! It is a postmodern hunting lodge!" Says the website of the new restaurant Roots in Amsterdam Old South. And when they say ‘hunting lodge' we're getting curious because this postmodern shed is located in a building that used to be a bank's office. So the only hunting ever done in that building was for cash.
But looking at the pictures of Roots, it is not so bad after all. They turned the safes of the bank into a great open kitchen in the heart of the restaurant. You can actually see the chef prepare your ‘zoervleisch' while you're waiting. We name ‘zoervleisch' because Roots serves a great amount of typical Dutch dishes. Zoervleish is a traditional dish, beef stewed in vinegar, from the province Limburg. They say they serve old-fashioned Dutch meals with a stylish touch. And we like that stylish touch mixed with a good Dutch meal. Because the Dutch kitchen is usually not known for its stylishness, now our food can be stylish, for once. Besides that, you pay only 15,50 for your ‘zoervleish'.
